Order Promotions

Salesforce B2C Commerce enables you to configure order promotions for percentage discounts, fixed price discounts, and free shipping. You can offer a bonus product or a choice of bonus products, and you can tier order discounts.

You can create an order promotion that requires a specific number of qualifying products that triggers an order-level discount. For example, Buy 3 products in a specific category and get 10% off entire order. This type of promotion is slightly different than a typical order promotion that is based on the merchandise amount (for example, Spend $50 and get 10% off order). This promotion type is similar to product and shipping promotions, except for bonus discount handling. Product promotions of this type can grant multiple bonus products, while order promotions of this type can only grant one.

An order promotion is calculated once at the order level, and rounded off once, if necessary. This is different than a product promotion, where the promotion is prorated, calculated, and rounded per product in the order. See Prorating Promotions.

The order promotion class supports these discount types:

Type Description Available discounts
With amount of qualifying products

Customer must purchase a minimum amount of merchandise to qualify for the discount. This is calculated based on the merchandise total for a given order after product promotions have been applied. For example, Buy $100 or more, get 10% off.

  • B2C Commerce gift certificates don't count as merchandise. However, if you define a gift certificate with an SKU, it will count toward the merchandise total, unless you exclude it when configuring the promotion.
  • Tax and shipping do not count toward the merchandise total.
  • Product options count toward the merchandise total.
  • You can exclude items from the promotion. Their value isn't included in the merchandise total.
With number of qualifying products

Customer must purchase a minimum number of qualifying products to qualify for the discount, for example, Buy 3 pair of shoes and get 10% of the merchandise total.

With Combination of Qualifying Products

Customer must purchase a specific combination of products, for example, two products from category A and one product from category B in the order to trigger the discount.

This configuration is similar to the with number of qualifying products promotion except:

  • The promotion can't be tiered.
  • The promotion has a qualifying product combination instead of a simple qualifying products rule.
  • The Disable global product exclusions flag is managed on the promotion details page instead of within the qualifying products window.
  • There is no selection for Discounted Products Equals Qualifying Products.

This type of promotion applies only once in the storefront when the customer has the qualifying product combination in their basket.

An excluded product (either locally or globally excluded) can't be used to satisfy a purchase combination condition.
