Scenario 4
Show Swatches in One Category and Sliced Variations in Another Category.
In this scenario, you configure the T-shirt (TS) product to show a single image with swatches in the sale category and search results, but with sliced variations in the Women's Tops category. The search results determine slicing from the default on the Product page Variations tab. The sale category uses the default, while the Women's Top category overrides the default to allow slicing.
This scenario uses the color variation attribute that is set as the slicing attribute at the catalog level. This scenario assumes that all variation values are available, so if you worked through scenario 3, undo any changes you made on the Variation Values tab.
- Select site > Merchant Tools > Products and Catalogs > Products, find the base product you want to merchandise. To open the product, click the product ID. For this scenario, search for T-shirt. This product isn't part of SiteGenesis data: you create it using the directions in Base Products for Scenarios.
- To open the Product page and click the Variations tab, click the base product ID.
- On the Product page Variations tab, for the color variation attribute, make sure that Slicing isn't selected. If slicing is deselected, the default behavior is that there is no slicing, which overwrites slicing settings for the category where you want to show sliced variations.
- Click Back.
- On the Product page Categories tab, click Edit Categories.
- On the Assign to Categories page, expand hidden > sale, select sale-womens, and click Apply. This assigns the product to the sale category and returns you to the previous page.
- For the storefront-catalog-en catalog
womens-clothing-tops category, click Details.
Note: Clicking the category name doesn't bring you to the correct page.
- On the Product Category Details page, click the Variation Values tab.
- On the Variation Attribute Values tab, for the color variation attribute, deselect Use Default.
- For the Slicing Attribute list, select Yes.
- Click Apply.
- Select site > Merchant Tools > Search > Search Indexes, then select the product index and click Rebuild to rebuild the index.
