Product Variation Types
Most products are available in a variation of sizes or colors. Salesforce B2C Commerce uses product variations types to help you configure your storefront to show product variations.
The product variation types include:
- Base Products
A base product is a non-sellable product type that represents all the sellable variations of a product. For example, a shirt base product can have size and color as variation attributes. A shoe base product can have size, color, and width as variation attributes. Product variations are typically product attributes like size, color, style, and options. - Variation Product
A variation product is a single product with specific values for all the base product attributes. In the storefront, a shopper filters the base product down to a variation by selecting specific values for each product variation attribute. For example, a dress shirt that is blue and size 16. A variation product is a real product that has attributes in addition to the variation attributes, such as SKU, name, description, images, and price. - Variation Groups
A variation group is a group of variation products that shares a common attribute, such as color or size. - Product Variation Scenarios
The scenarios outlined here let you experience the different ways you can use the base product, variation groups, and variation products to present products on your storefront. To complete the scenarios, you create the base and variation products that are used in the scenarios.
