My Journey into Salesforce: From Web Developer to Speaker at the Mobile World Congress

Today, I want to share my story—how I ended up in the world of Salesforce. Sometimes, a small coincidence can completely change your career, and maybe my experience can inspire you. Or maybe not—but hey, this is my blog, my newsletter, and I write about whatever I want. If you don’t like it, well, I’m sorry, but here I am telling my story.

Let’s go back to 2018. At that time, I had been working as a freelance web developer for five years. Some months were great, others… not so much. It wasn’t total instability, but there was always some uncertainty about how each month would go.

That year, my wife was pregnant with our first child. I started thinking: Is this the lifestyle I want? Having a family meant I needed more stability, steady income, and less unpredictability. So, I decided to look for a full-time job.

I found a job posting for a Web Developer. The requirements? HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS. No other details. Since I had been building websites for 15 years, I thought, I can do this.

I applied, went through the interview, got the job… and then discovered that the position was actually for a Salesforce B2C Commerce Cloud developer (formerly known as Demandware).

At first, I was completely lost. Coming from a web development background, I had no idea what Business Manager was, or what a Content Slot or a Content Asset meant. It felt overwhelming.

During the first month, I almost quit. I thought: This is too much. It’s a private platform, there’s no open-source documentation, and I just don’t get it. But for some reason, I decided to stick with it.

And here I am today.

My Growth in Salesforce Commerce Cloud

After one year, I became a Certified Developer. Over time, I worked on international projects for brands with multi-language, multi-currency, and multiple payment gateways. Later, I became a Lead Developer on an exciting project and eventually earned my Architect certification.

Over the years, I developed a real passion for this technology. I even started teaching others, creating courses on sfcclearning.com. I also published courses on Udemy (but have since moved everything to my platform).

I also run a newsletter—you can subscribe, by the way!

Expanding Beyond Commerce Cloud

Recently, I joined a company that specializes not only in B2C Commerce but also in other Salesforce clouds. This gave me the chance to explore Salesforce CRM. I took an Admin course, and I’m considering getting certified.

By the way, Salesforce Commerce Cloud has another version fully integrated into Salesforce Core. So, we’ve been experimenting with B2B and D2C solutions.

Speaking at the Mobile World Congress

And now, for the exciting part: I’ve been invited to speak at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona!

In early March, I’ll be hosting a 90-minute workshop at the Talent Arena, where we’ll build an e-commerce store using Salesforce Commerce Cloud D2C on the Salesforce Core platform.

If you're attending MWC 2025, check out the workshop schedule here:

So, what’s the lesson here?

I started with zero knowledge of Salesforce. A few years later, I’ll be on stage at a major international event, possibly in front of more than 100 people—something I’ve never done before.

Let’s see how it goes. If you’re attending, come say hi!
